VSView Classic Edition is the full product, including features such as VSPrinter, VSDraw, VSViewPort, DataReporter, and DataLabeler.
VSView Reporting Edition adds powerful, flexible database reporting on top of VSVIEW Classic Edition. VSVIEW Reporting Edition allows you to easily create Microsoft® Access-style database reports for your Visual Basic, VC++, and C++Builder applications, plus preview, print, and export those reports on your computer or over the Web. Use the companion WYSIWYG Report Designer to create, edit, load, and save report definition files. Report definition files are XML files that may contain multiple reports, and can be read by the VSReport8 control. The Report Designer can import report definitions from Microsoft Access MDB files, and can also import report definitions from VSReports™ 1.0 VSR files. The Report Designer has a user interface similar to the Microsoft Access report designer, including a wizard that makes report creation a breeze.
The Report Designer is not royalty-free; if you wish to distribute it as part of your applications, please contact ComponentOne. I've built complex POS systems for a decade now, and for almost as long I've searched for a straightforward way to build database reports for use by my system's users. I have done everything from custom coding everything by hand down to the printing via Windows API, to trying to use a multitude of reporting utilities that were supposed to simplify my work for me. Until now I had always came back to building my reports in code, as it was easier to have full control of the process this way, but for many years I've used VSVIEW for creating the output, previewing the reports, and (finally) controlling the printing process. When ComponentOne announced that they were bringing to the market a database-reporting edition of VSVIEW, it immediately got my attention. By putting together an intuitive and easy-to-use report building utility with the print formatting power of VSVIEW, they came up with a winning solution. VSVIEW's custom controls tame the complexity of creating and printing formatted documents under Windows. The VSDraw7 control permits you to build complex layered scalable documents like charts and maps that can be saved to disk or outputted to VSPrinter7 for previewing and printing. The VSViewport7 control lets you create scrollable areas on a form for easy viewing of documents or a large number of custom controls. With the VSPrinter7 control, you can build complex multi-page formatted documents complete with headers and footers and embedded graphics and pictures, preview them on the screen, and easily print them. You can also use VSPrinter7 in a web browser and export your documents to PDF, HTML, and RTF formats. In addition to the great power of the VSVIEW controls, VSVIEW Reporting Edition brings you the VSReport7 control, with which you can easily build sophisticated database reports, preview, and print them. The VSReport7 control allows you to build your reports directly in code and then save them in XML format. Moreover, the VSReport7 Report Designer utility lets you intuitively create, load, save, and edit the VSReport7 XML report definition files in a WYSIWYG format. The Report Designer can also import report definitions from Access .MDB files. Armed with this sophisticated and powerful suite of reporting and printing tools, you will now be able to create, preview, print, and export database reports in your standalone or web-based applications easier than you have ever been able to do before. It's definitely worth it to you to check out VSVIEW Reporting Edition!
